Circa 1851. Ten "Needle Box" Baxter prints (for needle boxes begun in 1850), by the patented process of colour printing in oil- intaglio and relief printed in colour ink (Baxter process).
Each print is 48 x 29 mm.
Mounted one after the other in a 85 x 60 mm. contemporary full maroon morocco album with the Queen's initials gilt blocked on front cover within gilt borders. Gilt blocked leather label to front free endpaper, "Eland + Exeter" for Publisher/Bookseller H.S. Eland, who published several works, including Architectural History of Exeter Cathedral (1873, 1888), Art in Devonshire (1883), and Devonshire Celebrities (1869).
Osborne House, Isle of Wight, was the Royal Summer Residence for Queen Victoria.
In totally original and untouched state, this is an attractive and intriguing, beautifully bound, miniature ensemble. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were early patrons of Baxter's work. The inclusion of needle box prints in a royal-initialled album aligns with her personal interest in miniature arts and domestic needlework.
