Map has illustrations of distilleries and company offices in margins, and a Pattisons whisky advertisement on verso; both printed by Banks & Co. Map by John Bartholomew & Co.  2" x 3.5"; folding out to 10" x 12". 17 x 23 cm, folded to 9 x 6 cm. Tears along some of the folds. Original olive green cloth. Upper cover with black printed title and image of male cyclist. Lower cover with black printed advert for Pattisons whisky distillery. Covers very slightly rubbed. Back covers read: 'Pattisons Limited, Highland Distillers. Glenfarclas-Glenlivet Distillery, BALLINDALLOCH, N.B. Aultmore-Glenlivet Distillery, KEITH, N.B. Head Offices, LEITH'. One of of 23 Pattisons Cyclists Road Maps, issued by Pattisons Limited, Scotch Whisky Distillers in the late 1800s, were little promotional gifts, promoting the Pattisons whisky blend, aimed specifically at sporting types (hunting, shooting, fishing, yachting, golfing, curling, coaching, and cycling!). In the late 19th century Pattisons was the largest whisky wholesaler and blender in Scotland. Pattisons was run by brothers Robert & Walter Pattison, who had inherited it from their father, and it enjoyed spectacular growth in the 'whisky boom' of the late 19th century. It ran into serious financial difficulites and collapsed in 1899 as a result of fraud and serious mismanagement by the two brothers, both of whom subsequently served prison sentences.  OCLC, 1013856701.
