It is one of the earliest Pickering's "Diamond Classics", often cited as the second, in William Pickering's famed miniature series designed to fit in a waistcoat pocket. In The Connoisseur of November 1902, Sheringham called this the rarest of the diamond classics as "only a hundred copies survived a fire" at the printers, and that "a complete copy is becoming valuable . However, he added that he'd seen quite a few of them over the years. Set in tiny 4-1/2 point ("diamond") types. According to Louis W. Bondy said "Due to the great editorial care and the superb printing and binding which went into their manufacture, combined with the importance of their contents, these little volumes are now very eagerly collected by minibibliophiles, and even more generally by lovers of finely produced books." Despite the very small type, the printing is noted for being incredibly distinct, clear, and readable. The volume contains the complete works of Virgil in the original Latin.
